Ok, I'll admit I think she is a bit weird but her tunes are catchy. I've had "Poker Face" stuck in my head from the first time I ever heard it. I like her beat and Poker Face is for sure my fav.  What's your favorite song?

Just Dance!  This one is stuck in my head because dd's dance class is learning a dance to it.  I like it though - so much so that I try to dance along with her.  That's a sight!

haha wow, I'm not a fan, as I said she's wierd. Ya her beats are good, but her lyrics are rediculous, maybe you should look more into them, especially if you would want your kids to listen to them. They are all about having sex,  getting drunk.  Music is getting retarded, its not even talent anymore, if you can sing about yourself having sex and make it rhyme, and then show your body off...then ya they think you have talent.  Just dance..look at the lyrics..its about her gettin drunk  at the club and not remembering she she says hell with it.."just dance." Poker face...all about sex...you get lost in the beat and dont really listen to the words. There are only a select few artists now a days who have talent in my mind...she for one is..disgusting..you can disagree but look at her lyrics she doesnt even write them..just my oppinion.

oh, I know the lyrics are bad and it's not something the kids listen to but her beat is catchy. I think music reflects our culture and she for sure reflects it well. I'm not saying I agree with it or think it's the right way to live but if you have a beat that makes people dance and a catchy song, then you are a success. That's America for you.

For what it's worth, the dance teacher told us she edited out the bad parts.  Until then, I really didn't know the words so I looked them up.  It is a great beat to dance to, but I agree... she is strange.

I guess probably nobody is going to her concert at Purdue in Jan. I really want to go but not sure if I want to spend the $36 on it. Tickets go on sale this weekend.

Poker Face is my favorite, of the 3 songs of hers I know.

I grew up listening to Prince, and he just skipped right over the innuendo and pretty much just talked about sex.  Sex in music is nothing new to me, or to the world of music.  I've heard worse than Lady GaGa.  My 3-year old thinks it's funny when I sing that song (b/c I can't sing), and there is no way he's going to get what she's talking about.

She actually does write her own songs.  Her real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.  She has also written for other artists.  Her genre is not my preferred (I like rock n' roll, which also is full of sex, btw, and sometimes even drugs!), but she's okay.  Catchy tunes for sure.

Yeah, I was thinking of Prince, too. I do think some popular lyrics are more explicit than when we were young but the sexiness is the same. It resonates with that aspect of life.

I doubt a racy song led anyone to have sex who wouldn't have otherwise, although who knows? I recall that George Michael's "Father Figure" had me all hot and bothered but that probably had more to do with being 17 than the lyrics!

I was thinking about this last night - whether or not lyrics were explicit or not when we were young.  There's Prince, but remeber 2LiveCrew?  They went way over the top.  Of course, the really explicit stuff was not played on the radio, so maybe that is the difference between then and now.

Aside from the topic of sex, I seem to be hearing "bitch" a lot in popular songs, in the middle of the day.   I'm not sure how I feel about that.  It's just a word, it doesn't offend me personally (in the context of these songs, like Crazy Bitch by Buck Chery, for instance), but I don't really want Jude running around saying crazy bitch.

Speaking of George Michael, there was also "I want your sex".  That had everyone in an uproar back in 1988 or so.

And I'm not sure if these types of songs make people want to be more promiscuous or not.  It's an interesting debate, and I think I could see the argument for either side.

A little off topic from the original post - sorry.  I still like Poker Face, the very random times I hear it.  I didn't buy her CD or anything. :)
